About the Procedure
During your initial consultation with Dr. Lefkowitz, you will discuss your specific desires and aesthetic goals. After conducting a full health history, he will carefully examine your breasts and body, taking measurements of your breasts to determine your current size, shape, nipple position and overall proportion to your body. He will also examine your skin quality and thickness, and assess any ptosis (or breast droop) you may have.
Based on your specific aesthetic desires and tissue characteristics, Dr. Lefkowitz will advise you on the implant type, method, and placement of the breast implant that will best suit your needs and expectations. During your consultation, you will also be able to see, feel, and try on various implant types and sizes to aid in your decision making process.
Surgery is generally performed using one of three different incisions: a small straight incision beneath the breast mound within the natural crease (Inframammary Fold), a gently curving incision around the bottom of the areola at the junction of the light and dark skin (periareolar), or a small incision in the underarm (transaxillary). The breast implants are usually placed beneath the pectoralis chest muscle, resulting in a natural shape and appearance. This technique is least likely to lead to the formation of scar tissue around the implant. Depending on your particular tissue characteristics and desires, Dr. Lefkowitz may choose to place them in a position where the implant is above the muscle. Dr. Lefkowitz will thoroughly discuss with you the best incision location, as well as the implant type, size, and shape for surgery.
Complementary Procedures
Depending upon your desired results, Dr. Lefkowitz may recommend a breast lift in conjunction with your implant procedure. A breast lift will restore the areola to a more youthful position and restore your natural perkiness.
