About the Procedure
A tummy tuck is performed using a horizontal incision in the lower abdomen at the bikini line. For most patients, the incision is placed just above the pubic area and within the hipbones, and most bikinis, thongs, and even low-rise jeans easily cover it. C-section scars are often removed as part of the procedure.
The abdominal muscles (and fascia covering the muscles) are tightened along the entire length of the abdomen. This helps repair stretched muscles after pregnancy, weight loss, or genetics. Excess skin is then trimmed away and the belly button is re-inset with small sutures.
Although less commonly performed, some patients are candidates for a “mini-abdominoplasty” in which the tummy tuck procedure is done thru a smaller horizontal incision and the muscle/fascia is tightened below the belly button only (instead of the entire length of the abdomen). Typically, patients who are good candidates for this procedure have very mild abdominal laxity and only minimal skin excess.
Regardless of the technique utilized, a tummy tuck is usually performed in an outpatient setting. Typically, the surgery takes about two to four hours to perform, however Dr. Lefkowitz is committed to spending as much time as needed to achieve the most balanced and beautiful results.

Complementary Procedures
Dr. Lefkowitz may also use liposuction to improve the abdominal contour. This is called a Lipo-abdominoplasty and has become an extremely common technique to further improve the contour of the entire mid-section.
Tummy tucks are also frequently performed as part of the Mommy Makeover total body package.
