Breast Reconstruction

Get back to your best after breast cancer.

About the Procedure

The typical breast reconstruction procedures include expander/implant based reconstruction and autologous tissue reconstruction (which uses your own body tissue.) For those women who have undergone lumpectomy and radiation treatment, surgeries can include augmentation and/or reduction of the affected breast as well as the contralateral (opposite breast) to help improve symmetry and balance.

Dr. Lefkowitz will meet with you to discuss your aesthetic and reconstructive goals to help you determine which procedure will best meet your needs. Often the procedure selected is dependent upon several aspects of your overall cancer treatment plan.

Recovery

Breast reconstruction is often performed at the same time as the mastectomy procedure (immediate reconstruction) but can also be performed at any time after the mastectomy/lumpectomy surgeries (and any possible radiation or chemotherapy treatments) are completed.

The recovery process is dependent upon the chosen method of reconstruction, as well as several factors of your overall cancer treatment plan.
