Blepharoplasty (Eye Lid Surgery)

Excessive upper eyelid skin, undereye bags and skin wrinkles near the eyes can make you look older and tired, even when you're well-rested. Gravity, age, sun exposure, overworked muscles and genetics can produce these issues, but their effects can be reversed by an eyelift, or blepharoplasty.

About the Procedure

Dr. Lefkowitz will perform an upper eyelid lift (upper blepharoplasty), a lower eyelid lift (lower blepharoplasty), or both together, depending on your desired outcome. Many techniques can rejuvenate the area around the eyes, including botox, fat grafting, laser or chemical peels, surgical skin removal, and fat repositioning.

Recovery

Usually, eyelifts only cause mild discomfort immediately after the procedure. Dr. Lekowitz will remove most stitches 4 or 5 days after surgery and prescribe medication to help with any pain and make your recovery more comfortable. Swelling and bruising is normal, and usually lessens within 10 days of surgery.

You may choose to return to work as soon as 5 days after an eyelift, or you may want to wait the whole 10 days for recovery, depending on your procedure. After 7 to 10 days, you should return to light aerobic exercise and increase your activity level over the following 3 weeks.
