Woman with a perfect nose.

Rhinoplasty (Nose Reshaping)

Genetics, heritage, and even environmental factors play a role in determining the shape and size of your nose. As the most prominent feature on the human body, a widened nose, dorsal hump, tip asymmetry, and other undesirable characteristics can strongly affect your self-confidence. Rhinoplasty, commonly referred to as a “nose job,” is a popular procedure that can help you achieve the more balanced appearance you desire.

About the Procedure

During your initial consultation, Dr. Lefkowitz will thoroughly discuss your aesthetic goals. He will also carefully examine your nose, paying particular attention to its relationship to other facial features in order to achieve perfect balance and symmetry.

A rhinoplasty is performed with a combination of techniques tailored to your specific anatomic needs and aesthetic goals. The profile of your nose (seen from the side view) can be adjusted—for instance a hump can be reduced and your nose contoured. The nose can be narrowed, and the tip can be refined. Rhinoplasty is commonly performed as an outpatient procedure lasting between 45 minutes to approximately 2.5 hours depending upon your needs and desired result.

Recovery

Most clients experience only mild discomfort following rhinoplasty. Swelling and bruising is normal, even around the eyelids, and usually subsides substantially within 7-10 days. Sutures used within the nose are dissolvable. If Dr. Lefkowitz places sutures between the nostrils, he will remove these in about five days. The splint placed on the outside of the nose is usually removed after 5-6 days. You will be given prescription medication to assist with any discomfort you may have during your recovery.

You can expect to take time off from work and strenuous activity as you heal. Most patients take 7-10 days off to recover, but you may return to work earlier (especially if no osteotomies are performed). Resuming light aerobic exercise (elliptical, walking, recumbent bike) after 7-10 days is recommended with a gradual increase over the next 2-3 weeks as tolerated.

Dr. Lefkowitz believes continuing care is essential to achieving the most positive results. After your rhinoplasty he will continue to guide you through all phases of the post-operative process including sun protection, diet, exercise, and continued skin care management.
