Chemical Peels

Your skin is exposed to all of the elements: Sun, gravity, tobacco, and age. With repeated exposure, your once youthful skin appears less smooth and stretched. Brown pigmentation changes, differences in pore size and development of fine wrinkles also contribute to the aged appearance of skin. Luckily, chemical peels can help rejuvenate and halt this process, even if only for a limited time.

Before the Procedure

Prior to your peel procedure, a skin care regimen suited to your needs will be implemented by Dr. Lefkowitz and his staff to better prepare your skin for the peel and improve your overall results. Typically, 6-8 weeks is preferred as this allows your skin to increase its rate of turnover and ultimately decrease your downtime after the chemical peel procedure.

About the Procedure

Depending on the number of areas treated, you can expect treatment to take approximately 15-25 minutes. Using a combination of soft cotton balls and swabs, Dr. Lefkowitz will gently apply a pre-made solution to the areas discussed during your initial consultation. A subtle breeze from an in office fan will help dissipate any discomfort felt during the process. Soon after application of the peel, you will be able to walk out of the office feeling refreshed and rejuvenated, excited about the results to come.

Recovery

You can expect redness and swelling for approximately 10-14 days. After the first seven days however, the redness starts to dissipate more quickly as your skin replenishes itself.

You may return to normal activities the day of your peel and back to more intense activity (aerobics, tennis, etc) after seven to eight days. You will be given a light ointment to keep your skin moist during the initial healing phase. It is recommended to use sunscreen with SPF 50 or higher whenever any exposure to sun is expected.

Achieving healthy, more youthful skin is possible with attention to several environmental factors. Avoiding tobacco products, strict sun protection with sun block, avoidance of tanning beds, and generous hydration are important initial steps in maximizing your skin’s natural beauty.
